Why is a barb installed in my HIBLOW air pump?
Video: how to swap out the screw or barb
Purpose of the brass barb:
HIBLOW aerators pump air into residential septic aerobic treatment units (ATUs). Regulations require ATU’s to alarm homeowners if the pressure of the system drops below ~1 PSI. Most ATU’s are designed with an external alarm panel. To monitor the aerator’s pressure, A 1/8” ID tube connects to the alarm panel and runs to the HIBLOW aerator where it attaches to a brass barb installed on the lower housing.
Don’t need the barb for your aeration application?
If you are using a HIBLOW as a pond aerator or for any other application and the pump has a barb installed, remove the barb and replace it with the screw (10/32 x ¼”), which can be found in your box.
Receive a pump with the screw instead of the barb?
If your aerator comes with a screw installed but you need the barb to hook up to the external alarm panel, the barb will be in the box.
